What a shocking referee in the Northern Ireland v Switzerland last night – I was on bookings and he got the first major decision of the game completely wrong with a yellow instead of red which would have changed the whole game. Still very angry about that.

To Wembley tonight for England v Germany – a game that can’t help but stir footballing emotions.  However the caveat stated yesterday about betting on friendlies still very much applies.

The first thing that surprised me was that they have played each other SIX times since that memorable night during the qualifying stages of the 2002 World Cup, at the Olympiastadion in Munich, when England ran out 5-1 winners. Only seems like yesterday !!

Since then there have been no drawn games – Germany have won four and England two.

Forecasting the starting XI’s is harder than the result. Hot off the presses here they are:

Starting line-ups

England XI: Pickford; Jones, Maguire, Stones; Trippier, Livermore, Loftus-Cheek, Dier, Rose; Abraham, Vardy

Germany XI: Ter Stegen; Ginter, Hummels, Rudiger; Kimmich, Gundogan, Ozil, Halstenberg; Draxler, Werner, Sane

Gareth Southgate has certainly gone for a youthful line-up including Chelsea duo Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Tammy Abraham.

Germany conceded to Northern Ireland, Czech Republic and Azerbaijan in their final four group games and seven of their last 10 games has seen over 3.5 goals triggered.
