Man City will be anxious to bounce back after Liverpool halted their unbeaten sequence last Sunday and it will surely be a case of ‘normal service has now been resumed’ when they face Newcastle at the Etihad at 5.30pm.

Plenty of off the field drama with Newcastle this week but any prospective purchaser of the club will only be too aware of their perilous position in the table.

They sit just three points off the relegation zone and if things really do go the distance for the Magpies there will be a dramatic final match of the season at St James’ Park where they play Chelsea.

Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez said: “When I was talking to Mike Ashley, he told me the takeover would not go through.

“We are doing what we have to do in this transfer window and preparing for the game.

“In terms of training, nothing changes. In terms of the transfer window, we have targets, we have names and we are trying to progress.”

In fairness to Rafael Benitez’s side they have picked up a little bit of form with two wins and two draws from their last four matches which have included a 3-1 win over Luton in the FA Cup.

It was also only on the 27 December that the pair met in the reverse fixture with Raheem Sterling’s 31st minute goal the only goal of the game.

David Silva is expected to return for City after his stomach problem but Vincent Kompany could miss out again.

City are 2/15 with Star Sports which could even be described as value given they have lost just once in 22 meetings and that defeat was in the League Cup !!

I can’t see this being another low scoring game as it was in December. City should bounce back in style and I’m a seller of the third match goal.
