S.P. Read Esq: Wigan Athletic v Man City
Our daily columnist and pundit S.P. Read Esq. looks ahead to Sunday’s FA Cup game between ROCHDALE v SPURS and finds the best opportunities available on Star Spreads, the home of sports spread betting.
The goals came too late for me last night at Spotland with the Rochdale v Spurs match finishing a ‘Desmond’ 2-2.
That was certainly the coupon buster result of the weekend. I spoke to a good friend this afternoon who made the valid point that when you have a David v Goliath type cup tie, why don’t the long odds on team START with their strongest side possible and then kill the tie off – rather than bringing on the likes of Harry Kane when the going starts to get a little tougher? Point well made as far as I can see.
Lightning is unlikely to strike twice at the DW Stadium where Wigan host Man City. It was only back in 2013 that this would have been a top flight fixture but Wigan’s fortunes have nose-dived spectacularly and the Latics are currently battling it out for promotion in second place in League One.
Man City still have eyes on the Quadruple so won’t be letting off the gas and certainly would want to avoid a replay in an already congested fixture list.
It’s also a repeat of the 2013 FA Cup Final which Wigan won 1-0 and then the following season Wigan again beat Man City in the FA Cup to reach the semi finals.
Wigan’s manager Paul Cook said: “We’ve got a fantastic stadium and the support inside it will make it a really good atmosphere, that’s a guarantee.
“Everyone can look forward to a good night of football.
“Football has a funny way of sending out shock results and our belief on Monday night must be that we can win the game.”
