Despite what the SKY hype machine might say, it’s a damp squib end to the Premier League season this afternoon with the only business of consequence to be resolved being the fight between Liverpool and Chelsea for a top four position.

Liverpool need just a point at Anfield unless Chelsea go ballistic on the goal scoring front in their match against Newcastle at St James’ Park !

If you’ve already had enough – it won’t be long before it all gets going again and we have the small matter of the World Cup as the sandwich in-between.

Firstly, well done Brighton for survival – but also congratulations too to fellow promoted sides Newcastle and Huddersfield. All three were varying degrees of short prices to drop straight back down and it’s only the third time in Premier League history that the three promoted sides have stayed up the following season.

The last two head to heads between Liverpool and Brighton have produced 13 goals and when you consider the final day of the season can often throw up plenty of goals as teams are generally more relaxed – this could be a real goalfest.

For all Brighton’s good work this season though, they haven’t been as effective on their travels scoring just 10 goals.

Brighton’s manager Chris Hughton said: “I think the next step is making sure that we stay in the division again. I think it has to be that way, this is only our first season in this Premier League. We are learning still, we’re trying to improve as much as we can.

“We will try in the summer to add to the squad, even though I don’t see big additions. I think you have to be stable in a division first before perhaps you can make bigger steps.”

Liverpool still have a job to do and I think they will do it in style leaving them then to focus on their date with Real Madrid in two weeks time. I’m a seller of the time of the third match goal with Star Spreds.
