S.P. Read Esq: Marseille v Atletico Madrid
Our daily columnist and pundit S.P. Read Esq. looks ahead to Wednesday’s Europa League Final between MARSEILLE v ATLETICO MADRID and finds the best opportunities available on Star Spreads, the home of sports spread betting.
The Europa League (finally) comes to an end tonight and I’m not sure we’ll see too many goals between Marseille and Atletico Madrid.
Ten of Atletico’s last 12 matches in all competitions have featured three or fewer goals and Marseille have averaged 2.1 goals in the league this season where they finished in fourth, 18 points behind champions PSG.
Marseille do at least have the advantage of playing on home soil tonight with the final being played at the Stade de Lyon, although Atletico’s manager Diego Simeone will miss the match after being sent to the stands against Arsenal, so his assistant German Burgos will take charge of the team from the sidelines.
Atletico are twice previous winners of the Europa League, in 2010 and 2012, and have also lost in two Champions League finals since then and are clear favourites to beat Marseille – the surprise package this year.
This will be the first clash between Marseille and Atletico Madrid in European competition since 2008-09, when the Spaniards went unbeaten against them in the Champions League group stage (W1 D1).

One thing to look out for is bookings. Marseille have been given the most cards in this season’s Europa League with 30 yellows and three reds so with so much at stake tonight, it could be a similar pattern of indiscipline for Dutch referee Bjorn Kuipers to sort out.
Kuipers has an average 41 points on the bookings meter this season and could easily go way beyond that in such a high profile game. I’m a buyer of bookings at 56 with Star Spreads.
