The Roma ticket office must have been pleased with their sides late two goals at Anfield as a 5-0 first leg deficit would surely have been a hard sell for anything other than the most ardent of Roma fans.

There’s now suddenly a squeak of a chance but for Roma to stand any chance they surely have to avoid conceding an away goal and that’s pretty unthinkable in a match that Jurgen Klopp will want to see Liverpool at their rampant best. Liverpool have scored 20 goals in six Champions League away matches this season and I can’t really see them not scoring tonight.

Klopp said: “We want to reach the final. It is big,” said Klopp. “I really think we deserve to be here.

“We don’t think about how our grandfathers came here and won the European Cup [in 1984].

“We don’t need to make it any bigger. We know the history. We just need to do what we do and the boys need to play their football.

“If we get the result we need, we deserve to be in the final. But if Roma get through then they deserve it. If you want to win, you have to accept you might lose. You have to be brave. You have to be active.”

History needs to repeat itself for Roma. A 3-0 win at the Stadio Olimpico would take them through – just as it did when they stunned the mighty Barcelona in the quarter-final after losing 4-1 in Spain.

Roma will be without Roma’s Diego Perotti (ankle) and Kevin Strootman (knock).
