A Traveller's tale at Lingfield …

More exciting all weather action this Tuesday afternoon where Lingfield Park is the venue for a competitive looking seven race card. Good to see both leading all weather jockeys Luke Morris and Joe Fanning in action here this afternoon too. Before we look through the card in detail let’s have a quick look at the all important stats available to us from the track. Leading jockeys with mounts this afternoon include Jim Crowley, Georgie Baker and Luke Morris while trainers to respect with runners on the card include Mark Johnston,Richard Hannon and Gary Moore. The draw bias seems to have settled down over the last few months but I still like those drawn low in races up to seven furlongs here. Finally hold up horses always do well here when ridden off the pace. They never make all here !
Newspaper tipsters that can be followed with a certain degree of confidence include David Milnes, the Newmarket gallops watcher, who puts up Gold Falcon as his best chance in the seven furlong maiden at 4.10 while the Post’s Lambourn correspondent goes with Mark Usher’s Katmai River in the seven furlong handicap at 3.40. Finally the most popular selection amongst the Post’s tipsters is the royal runner Traveller’s Tales in the maiden at 4.40.
Racing opens with the apprentice handicap at 2.10 and a stat worth noting here is Mark Johnston’s 33% strike rate with his three year old handicappers at the track,a pointer perhaps to the chances of Always Eager. Keep an eye on the top horse Captain Cardington, one or two each way judges were seen taking the big prices about Martin Harley’s mount earlier on this morning.
The four runner seller at 2.40 is a pretty uninspiring event where Willie Muir’s Moment In The Sun has a chance to open her account. Market watch is recommended in this race when assessing the chances of Osborne’s Cuore ,the stable having been successful in six of the last nine all weather sellers they have had runners in.
The two mile handicap at 3.10 looks tricky but the grey filly The Absent Mare is on a roll and could rack up the hat trick despite a nine pound steadier incurred for her latest success. Respect also for Johnston’s runner Belle Josephine, while do remember that top weight Kahfre won this same race in 2011.
Onto the seven furlong handicap at 3.40 ,possibly the most competitve heat of the day. Roger Ingrams’ Buxton is a on a potential winning mark while Pricewise have put up bottom weight Fearless Poet as their each way selection. Watch also for the three horse Royal Box, one or two all weather ‘faces’ have been noted chipping away at fancy prices already this morning.
The market for the seven furlong maiden at 4.10 will surely revolve around the well being or otherwise of the Johnston newcomer Alkadi . If she’s not ready to win at first time of asking it might pay to side with Tim Pitt’s Sugar Prince who has been rock solid in the market during the early exchanges.
Racing draws to a close with the one mile handicap at 5.10. Little doubt that this has been the busiest race on the card in the offices this morning with the unexposed top weight Takhreej the subject of much attention. Formerly trained by Sir Michael Stoute at Newmarket ,Takhreej spent some time with Keith Dalgleish and now finds himself in the care of Welsh handler Paul Rich. A couple of Lingfield regulars to note here might be Gallantry (runs in his 114th race today) and Kipchak who looks for win number seven at this venue.
