Now don’t get me wrong my kids love Legoland and I love taking my kids to Legoland. We’ve been there dozens of times over the years and were Merlin pass holders for a few years before the eldest joined big school. We found weekend days too busy after enjoying the queue free days of the week. I asked my little girl what she wanted to do for her birthday (Sunday 9th September) and as usual she wanted to go to Legoland.
We knew we would have to get there early to beat the queues so we paid for a hotel nearby so we could get there, buy the tickets and be at the front of the queues when the rides open at 10. We had it planned out as usual and rushed to Viking Splash where if we get a ride early the kids are happy even if the queues meant we wouldn’t be able to go on many other rides. We got to Viking splash only to find it was closed for mechanical reasons.
We rushed down the hill to go on another ride but the queues were already filling with those that had come down by train. So we waited in the queue for Longboat invader. Having waited in that queue for 10 minutes or so we were told it was also closed for mechanical failure. So half an hour after the gates opened the queues have built up on all the rides and my 2 kids have yet to have gone on any rides at all. This is not how my little girl imagined her 7th birthday going.
It became obvious our only chance to now have a decent day was to spend yet more money on a Qbot for the four of us. We did this to recover from all the closed rides we had encountered. Unbelievably whilst waiting for a ride we booked on the q-bot we queued for the helicopter ride and that too broke down after we had queued for 15 minutes. They gave us a rescued guest card to say we could go to the front of any queue right away. We saved this card for the Viking Splash to use on the way out as it had been working again. We got there to go to the front of the queue just as it broke down again so we never got to use our go to the front of the queue pass. We have had many great days at Legoland and will be coming again but feel we should be compensated for all the failures we encountered on this day and the extra expense it caused us.
We are great customers of Legoland and Lego as my little boy wants nothing more than Star Wars Lego and my little girl loves “Friends” Lego and their dream is to spend a night in the Legoland hotel. By the time we’d bought the tickets, Qbots, food, drinks, Lego etc. we must have spent the best part of £200. As Legoland usually provide good service I feel we may have just been unlucky on the day but still deserve compensation of some sort.
