Bayer Leverkusen to make life tough
IT’S the return of the Champions League tonight and some tough opening matches for both Manchester City and United.
It’s certainly the biggest test to date for new manager David Moyes at Old Trafford as his side take on German outfit Bayer Leverkusen who are more than capable of causing United problems – especially if they put in the same lacklustre effort as they did against Crystal Palace on Saturday when struggling to put day light between themselves and a Palace side who were down to 10 men before halftime.
United last played Levekusen in the Champions League in 2001-2002 and 2002-2003 seasons and whilst the stats are too old to be relevant it proves they were no pushover then and won’t be tonight.
HEAD TO HEAD RECORD
Nov 2002 Champions League Man Utd 2-0 B Leverkusen
Sep 2002 Champions League B Leverkusen 1-2 Man Utd
Apr 2002 Champions League B Leverkusen 1-1 Man Utd
Apr 2002Champions League Man Utd 2-2 B Leverkusen
Danny Welbeck (knee) looks certain to miss the game, whilst Phil Jones (ankle) is also a major doubt. Rafael trained this morning after a hamstring injury, and whilst Shinji Kagawa also joined in the main session, he is still feeling the after-effects of a flu virus.
Moyes will choose from: De Gea, Lindegaard, Amos, Rafael, Fabio, Jones, Smalling, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra, Buttner, Valencia, Giggs, Carrick, Cleverley, Fellaini, Anderson, Kagawa, Young, Van Persie, Rooney, Hernandez.
The Star Spreads pricing on the Man U superiority of 0.7-0.9 makes very little appeal to buy and as I think this looks destined for a draw (at best) for Man U – I am naturally going to be a seller.
ADVICE
Sell Man U Bayer Leverkusen superiority at around 0.7 on Star Spreads
- Any spread prices quoted are indicative and as always prices are subject to fluctuation.
