England to book ticket in style

Roy Hodgson’s side are on the verge of qualification after beating Montenegro 4-1 on Friday, but anything less than 3 points tonight will mean it’s the play-offs for the Three Lions with Ukraine 1/50 to beat San Marino.

This would be nothing short of a disaster, at least in the eyes of the fans. Expectations are always far too high when it comes to England; they are a second tier team and really should be treated like one. But no, ever two years the hype machine kicks into overdrive and it’s as if Brazil 1970 were taking part.

England captain Steven Gerard believes that his team – a mix of young and old – can “bust” the ghosts of both the 1973 qualifying heartache to Poland and – more recently – the wretched evening in November 2007: the 3-2 defeat and failure to reach Euro 2008 against Croatia.

Poland won’t be making a trip to Brazil this time around as they lost 1-0 to Ukraine on Friday evening but still have a big say in the futures of England and Ukraine. I can’t see Poland laying down and letting the chance of England’s scalp fall by the way side. Will England have enough to see it through?

Looking at the betting the Total Goals jump out at me as a Buy at 3.1. England’s strikers are all firing and they seem to be a bit leaky at the back as well.

My conclusion is we will see England confirm they are a better team than anyone else in Group H. Just win on Tuesday, and all else is irrelevant.

ADVICE

BUY TOTAL GOALS at around 3.1
