Graham's Trading Desk Report

It was another weekend of ups and downs in the Star Spreads trading room, with some big sums changing hands. Overall, we escaped from the weekend with a small loss, but there were a few frayed nerves by the end of Sunday evening.

Saturday

Saturday kicked off with half a dozen Premiership games and our punters wasted no time in getting against the struggling Champions by siding with Newcastle on the Supremacy market; 90 mins later after Yohan Cabaye’s strike our football traders were looking glum to say the least.

The 3pm Kick Offs produced a mini-fightback with buyers of Man City and Chelsea coming unstuck. Somewhat surprisingly we swerved a big hit when we saw only small stakes for Liverpool over West Ham where another master-class from that man Suarez could easily have cost us dear. In the evening kick-off we awaited some big business after our traders sat on the low side of goal-shy Spurs on the supremacy market, for their tricky game at Sunderland. Our clients obviously had little faith in them and we took only moderate business on the corners and bookings markets with no major damage done.

The big race at Sandown saw a chunky sum fly out the window with a whole host of clients siding with Sire De Grugy on the 50 Index. We knew the maximum Make-Up was on the cards when he was swinging off the bridle turning for home; he winged the last fence and our fate was sealed. ‘There’s always tomorrow,’ came the response from one of our seniors.

Sunday

Sunday saw a similar pattern to the previous day when after laying some lumpy trades going with Fulham we were chasing our losses early after their comfortable 2-0 home win over Villa.

And then, another fight-back when a chunky bet from a punter “getting with” Arsenal in their draw with Everton meant a winning day was suddenly on the cards; but we can never count our chickens when there is a whole night of NFL action still to come. The evening passed without any major swings though we were getting excited when, having laid a fair sum on Denver. Tennessee jumped out to a lead only for Manning to inspire the Broncos during the 2nd half eventually leading to a convincing 51-28 win.

So a weekend where we were always playing catch-up but ‘got away with a few’ as well. Bring on next weekend!
