S.P.Read Esq: Clonmel races
Our daily columnist and pundit S.P. Read Esq. looks ahead to the racing on Thursday afternoon at CLONMEL and finds the best opportunities available on Star Spreads, the home of sports spread betting.
Jumps racing cranks up another gear at Clonmel this afternoon with two Graded races on the card including the Clonmel Oil Chase (Grade 2) at 2.25.
Favourites have a great recent record in this race and last season’s Cheltenham and Punchestown Gold Cup’s third, Road To Riches, is set go off at the top of the market.
The shorter trip might be a little concern for him today but I see no reason why his road to Cheltenham shouldn’t start with a win.
The trip will suit the Willie Mullins trained Felix Yonger much better and he might be a tough nut to crack. He’s bidding for a fifth consecutive win but still puts in the odd alarming jumping error and that could find him out against the likes of Road To Riches.
The other Graded race on the card is the T.A. Morris Memorial Mares Chase at 2.55 which very much looks at the mercy of the Willie Mullins trained Vroum Vroum Mag who bids for a sixth win in a row.
With odds-on favourites likely to book-end the card and increasingly testing conditions I’m very much a buyer on the Star Spreads distance market at a starting point of 35.
