Big match for Ireland tonight at the Aviva as they bid to qualify for the Euro 2016 Championships. In the first leg of this match against Bosnia (played in bad fog), Robbie Brady’s 82nd minute goal looked to have sealed a 1-0 victory before Bosnia equalised just three minutes later.
Brady’s goal may yet prove critical however as it was a valuable away goal and means a 0-0 draw or ANY victory will be enough to see Ireland qualify for France.
The ROI manager was quick to dismiss any suggestions that his side will be playing for the draw. Martin O’Neill said: “The tie is finely balanced and we have to go for the win. That has to be the mindset because Bosnia are more than capable of scoring. If we went out with any other mindset, things might not work out for us.”
He added: “I think if you said at the start that we had to win our final game at the Aviva Stadium to qualify for France, we would have taken that. It would be a big boost for the country if we could qualify. The crowd will get behind us and, if we can get the atmosphere we had against Germany, that would serve us greatly.”
Ireland will be boosted by the anticipated return of both John O’Shea and Shane Long who missed the first leg through injury and suspension.
