S.P.Read Esq: Tuesday’s Champions League

Published On April 12, 2016 | By S.P.Read Esq. | S.P.Read Esq

Our daily columnist and pundit S.P. Read Esq. looks ahead to Tuesday’s Champions League matches between MAN CITY v PSG and REAL MADRID v WOLFSBURG and finds the best opportunities available on Star Spreads, the home of sports spread betting.

SPreadTwo fascinating second leg matches in the Champions League (Quarter Finals) tonight given that the respective first legs didn’t exactly go as scripted.

Real Madrid have a 2-0 deficit to overcome against Wolfsburg who look sure to try and park the proverbial bus for 90 minutes against what should be a rampant Real Madrid in attack. Real have a strong home record, generally score goals in Champions League games and rested several of their key players ahead of tonight’s return leg.

The Star Sports fixed odds ‘to qualify’ market is interesting – it’s currently a coin flip between the pair at 10/11 each of two. On that market, I think I’d have to be with the Spanish team who know exactly what they need to do to progress and will surely come out all guns blazing?

Man City got a great result in Paris with their 2-2 draw and of course crucial away goals. As well as they played, I think they were pretty fortunate with the result but the away goals means tonight that a 0-0 or 1-1 draw, or any victory, will be enough to take City through.

Manager Manuel Pellegrini is insistent though that this will not mean his side shutting up shop: “I think the most important aspect of this team is always to score. We are working here for three years and I always have the same answer. We are a team that is prepared to score goals. If we prepare to play 0-0 I think we lose. You see the same team you see the last two and a half seasons.”

The Premier League isn’t (yet) out of reach for City but it’s any price you like and their season now revolves around progressing further in the Champions League. There will be a capacity crowd at the Etihad as they bid to continue their route along un-chartered waters. This is the first time they’ve ever got as far as the quarter finals and as things stand they are an odds-on chance to reach the semis.

They will need to do it without the services of captain Vincent Kompany who remains on the sidelines with a calf injury.

PSG are without centre-back David Luiz and midfielder Blaise Matuidi through suspension.
