S.P.Read Esq: Poland v Portugal (Euro 2016 Thursday)
Our daily columnist and pundit S.P. Read Esq. looks ahead to Thursday’s Euro 2016 action and the 8pm match between POLAND v PORTUGAL and finds the best opportunities available on Star Spreads, the home of sports spread betting.
A week is a long time in politics and in football. This time last week England were still in Europe in both categories.
Euro 2016 marches on tonight with the first quarter-final which sees Poland take on Portugal at the Stade Vélodrome.
I think the value has to be with Poland.
Portugal have limped into the last eight with draws against Iceland, Austria and Hungary and were far from impressive when needing an extra time winner to get past Croatia in one of the dullest games seen so far.
Poland have fared a little better – they have beaten Northern Ireland and Ukraine and held Germany to a goalless draw. They needed penalties to beat Switzerland in the first knock-out game.
The Poles have been great defensively, only conceding one goal, and it’s hard to see that there are going to be too many goals tonight.
Portugal remain a one man side for me and Ronaldo is far from his best so far in this tournament. However, Polish captain Robert Lewandowski is also suffering from a goal drought which is another contributing factor to a low scoring affair.
