S.P. Read Esq: Middlesbrough v Hull
Our daily columnist and pundit S.P. Read Esq. looks ahead to Monday’s Premier League clash between MIDDLESBROUGH v HULL and finds the best opportunities available on Star Spreads, the home of sports spread betting.
Lightning struck twice yesterday. AFC Wimbledon’s comeback from 3-0 down against Curzon in the FA Cup was swiftly followed by Bournemouth’s stunning fightback against Liverpool from 2-0 and 3-1 down.
4-3 would appear to be the new 1-0 !
There was also drama in El Clasico with Real Madrid’s late equaliser against Barcelona, although the scheduling of this match at 3.15pm on a Saturday afternoon seemed bonkers. It clashed with the Tingle Creek at Sandown for goodness sake !!
The final match of the Premier League ‘weekend’ takes place tonight at the Riverside Stadium with Middlesbrough playing host to Hull.
Both sides were promoted from the Championship last season – Boro grabbing an automatic spot and Hull (who finished fourth in the regular season) winning the play-off final.
Middlesbrough have made the better start – but it’s getting tight at the bottom. Boro are 16th and Hull 19th but there’s only a point between them so this looks a real six-pointer.
However, looking at the table in more detail I think Middlesbrough are in a much better place. They have emerged with credit from a tough set of fixtures. They were unlucky not to take all three points from their trip to the Emirates and have since drawn with Man City at the Etihad and went down only 1-0 to Chelsea, the new favourites for the crown.
Middlesbrough head coach Aitor Karanka said on tonight’s rivals Hull: “They have had injuries but they are in a good moment having reached the EFL Cup semi-final and they are only one point below us. We know them from last season but it is going to be a completely different game.
“We have to avoid complacency thinking we are playing really well or we are playing at home against Hull who have a lot of injuries.
“We have to forget everything and only think that we have a tough game and an important game, and just focus on us.”
In contrast Hull are in a terrible patch of form. Their season started well in honeymoon fashion with wins against defending champions Leicester and Swansea but have only won one league game since. They also had a lengthy EFL Cup match against Newcastle last Tuesday to recover from – a game which eventually they emerged as winners on penalties but Middlesbrough should be the fresher team having had a full eight days to prepare.
