S.P. Read Esq: Man U v West Ham
Our daily columnist and pundit S.P. Read Esq. looks ahead to Sunday’s 4pm Premier League clash between MAN U v WEST HAM and finds the best opportunities available on Star Spreads, the home of sports spread betting.
People talk about the Premier League being a ‘marathon not a sprint’ and ‘only the first games of the campaign’ and they are right, to a point, but there were some monumental messages sent out yesterday.
Firstly, champions Chelsea will no longer be seen as invincible. No disrespect intended – but if Burnley can beat them at home then any side has nothing to fear. Whilst they were down to nine men in the end – the damage was done earlier in the game and it’s a catastrophic start for the Blues that must have sent zillions of accas into the bin.
Secondly, newly promoted Huddersfield sit top of the new table – absolutely brilliant and how many times will that table get screen-grabbed and shared on social media? For once, it isn’t fake news.
I’m so old I can remember the Sunday papers not even printing the tables for the first few weeks of a new season – now you get an in-play table on the screen for the very first weekend of matches !! It’s so bonkers that Man United are in mid-table and they haven’t even played a game yet!
That gets put right at 4pm when they welcome West Ham to Old Trafford. Hardly surprising that West Ham start with an away fixture as it would have needed Challenge Anneka to have turned the Olympic Stadium back to ‘New Upton Park’ after last night’s closing World Athletic events.
It’s a tough start for the Hammers. Manager Slaven Bilic: said: ”It’s not ideal playing [against Man Utd at Old Trafford] first game of the season, but on the other hand, it is brilliant and one of the greatest away games in the league.
“They have improved the squad with quality and big transfers, so we will have to be on top of our game.
“We are missing players, it could be better for us but of course we are positive.”
Man U will be looking at getting off to the strongest possible start this season, even more so with Chelsea slipping up.
Man U will be without long term absentees Luke Shaw, Ashley Young and Marcos Rojo and Mourinho is likely to give new signings Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic their Premier League debuts for the club.
Man U have won 17 of their 21 Premier League home games against West Ham and only lost two. There’s impatience brewing for a strong title challenge and I can see Man U coming out of the traps at a fast pace today.
I’m a seller on the time of the first Man U goal.
