Brighton scored early enough last night (25 minutes) for a nice profit on the recommended Star Spreads trade.

Switching to the Carabao Cup Semi-Final tonight for a slightly more uncompetitive affair – Man City taking on Bristol City in the first leg of the first League Cup semi-final.

Man City’s winning run in the Premier League came to an end with a 0-0 draw against Crystal Palace but we can’t forget one amazing stat. They remain unbeaten in domestic football this season.

The Man City Quadruple remains very much on and whilst Pep Guardiola is predictably playing down the chances – it is apparently the talk of the dressing room with the players up for it.

Bristol City’s heroics in beating Man U was surely their ‘Cup Final’ but it appears to have come at a cost. Since that game in December their festive form has been poor with just one win from five games and they come into this on the back of defeats by Wolves and Aston Villa (5-0) in the Championship and were knocked out of the FA Cup by Watford.

They still have so much to play for in the Championship but need to be careful that the League Cup run doesn’t get in the way of the far more important job in hand of trying to get into the Premier League.

Pep Guardiola will also be anxious to get a job done tonight to leave the second leg at Ashton Gate as a formality and a chance to rotate his impressive firepower.

As such, Guardiola is likely to name a strong side tonight. He said: “We are going to try to win the game, take the best result possible, then go to Bristol away with the best result – that’s the only way I know.

“The important thing is to be involved in all competitions and we are there as well as other teams. Chelsea are in the same position, they’re in them all.

“We have to be involved in everything. From my experience in Barcelona when we won the treble, in January you cannot talk about it, it’s unrealistic.

“In sport, the most important thing is what’s next. Visualise, focus on what’s next. If you look far away: big mistake.”
