S.P. Read Esq: ARSENAL v MAN CITY
Our daily columnist and pundit S.P. Read Esq. looks ahead to the Premier League Sunday game between ARSENAL v MAN CITY and finds the best opportunities available on Star Spreads, the home of sports spread betting.
It’s an exciting new era for Arsenal fans under Unai Emery but it could be the same old story as Champions Manchester City look value to start their season with a win at the Emirates.
There is justified anticipation for the Gunners first season without Wenger in 21 years. Arsenal have never lacked for attacking prowess – Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang can kick on after scoring 10 goals in 13 appearances for Arsenal after a mid-season move from Dortmund and he is ably backed up by Alexandre Lacazette and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, supplied by Mesut Ozil.
More importantly, they have added some steel in the shape of Lucas Torriera, exemplary for Uruguay in the World Cup and Sampdoria before that, former Dortmund defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos and the very experienced Stephan Lichensteiner along with new goalkeeper Bernd Leno.
In Emery they have chosen one of the best options possible to take the club forward -The former Sevilla and PSG man has had a full pre-season to implement his philosophy on the squad and added plenty of defensive steel on paper, but this is an exalting opening assignment.
It would be a shock if City won the title by 19 points yet again, but they were clearly the dominant team in England last season and they finished 37 points ahead of Arsenal. Any fears of a World Cup hangover look to be wishful thinking for their opponents based on how they dismissed Chelsea in the Community Shield.
Sergio Aguero had another typically well taken double and Bernado Silva and Phil Foden starred in the absence of Kevin de Bruyne, Raheem Sterling and David Silva. There is such depth at City that Guardiola is unlikely to miss them this weekend should they remain absent and Riyad Mahrez looked at home playing with Leroy Sane upfront too.
Arsenal ought to be more organised than Chelsea were following a strong pre-season without too many of their stars involved in World Cup duties, but City already look set and rolling and they should start the defence of their title in style.
