How Spread Betting Works: Tennis

Total Games
The predicted number of games played by both players in total. Spreads will depend on whether 3 or 5-set match.

Eg: Murray v Roddick (5 sets)

Spread: 40-42 games

· Market Result: Murray bt. Roddick 6-3, 7-5,6-4 = 31
·Profit = 9 x stake if sold goals / Loss = 11 x stake if bought

Games Supremacy
The predicted winning margin by one player over another from the aggregate of games won during a match. The minimum result for a 3-set match is -12 and maximum is +12, for a 5-set match min is -18 and max +18. The favourite is listed first in the supremacy spread which can also have a negative result making greater wins or losses.

Eg: Djokovic v Hewitt (5 set match)

Spread: Djokovic/Hewitt 7-7.5

· Market Result: Djokovic bt. Hewitt 6-4, 6-2, 3-6, 2-6, 6-1 = 4
· Profit = 3 x stake if sold / Loss = 3.5 x stake if bought

Eg of negative supremacy: Djokovic v Hewitt (3 set match)

Spread: Djokovic/Hewitt 4-4.5

· Market Result: Hewitt bt. Djokovic , 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 = -4
· Profit = 8 x stake if sold / Loss = 8.5x stake if bought

Set Supremacy
The predicted winner of a particular match. The winner is awarded 10 points, plus a further 3 pts for each set won by. The favourite is listed first in the supremacy spread which can also have a negative result making greater wins or losses.

Eg: Rafael Nadal v James Blake

Spread: Nadal/Blake 12.5-14.5

· Market Result: Rafael Nadal bt James Blake 6-2, 6-2, 6-4
· Profit = 4.5 x stake if bought / Loss = 6.5 x stake if sold

Eg of negative supremacy: Rafael Nadal v James Blake

Spread: Nadal/Blake 12.5-14.5

· Market Result: James Blake bt Rafael Nadal 6-2, 6-2, 6-7, 4-6, 5-7
· Profit = 25.5 x stake if sold / Loss = 27.5 x stake if sold

The predicted performance of a player throughout the tournament, where the points awarded should always be checked. In this example, the winner gets 100 points:
100 – winner
75 – runner up
50 – losing semi-final
33 – losing quarter-final
20 – last 16
10 – last 32
