Limerick

It’s Munster National day at Limerick on Sunday where the Greenmount executive have put together what looks like a fabulous seven race national hunt card.
Racing opens with the Adare hurdle- a race where, on all known form, Sailor’s Warn looks well clear of his rivals. Magical Memoir is consistent and might prove to be a viable forecast option.

The two and-a-quarter-mile handicap hurdle (3.00) has attracted a big field and looks difficult to say the least. Impersonator has dropped down to a useful 94 perch and is one for consideration while the local horse Palio Square has winning form on the all-weather in the UK and is perhaps one to watch for in the market. Final mention for the unexposed Battlemount for whom David Casey is an eye-catching booking.

The grade three hurdle at 3.30 could be one for Ruby and Ted with fast improving Royal Reveille. Russell’s mount Resolute Bay is put up as the danger.

The second of our handicap hurdles at 4.00 could be the rock on which many a jackpot perm will perish. Tom Cooper’s Coole Avenue and Sean Doyle’s Get In There are speculative choices against the field in this.

Onto the featured Munster National at 4.35 where, once again, a maximum field is due to face the starter. Donie Sheehan’s immensely popular race mare For Bill has built up a sizeable fan club and will be a popular choice, while due respect is also given to last year’s runner up Tinakelly Lad. The lightly weighted Casey Top, trained in Wexford by a firm no stranger to ‘knocking it off’ in these big handicaps, could also go well.

The grade three chase at 5.05 affords a nice opportunity for Loosen My Load to follow up a recent Navan success, with the obvious danger being the Welsh raider West With The Wind, a horse that has won an incredible five races at Ffos Las for Evan Williams.

Racing closes with the beginners’ chase where Aintree winner Far Away So Close looks the class act. False Economy and Baily Green are others to respect in a race that will surely produce plenty of subsequent winners.
