Super Bowl Thoughts

Well it wasn’t the Super Bowl that I wanted (San Fran vs Pittsburgh anyone?) but I suppose it could have been worse. After a heartbreaking Championship Sunday (Kyle Williams, I hope you never hear language like I directed towards your image on the tv screen after your second muffed punt) I’m going to try to rouse myself for the New England Patriots vs the New York Giants (part deux).

Subplots abound in this weekend’s marquee matchup. It’s Boston vs New York, America’s greatest city rivalry (Celtics v Knicks, Yankees Redsox etc). Brady vs Eli. A rematch of one of the greatest Super Bowls ever. A chance for the Patriots to avenge not only that particular bowl, but also a regular season defeat. A chance for the Patriots to win at the home of their greatest rivals (the Peyton Manning-less Indianapolis Colts).

But we don’t care about all that in this betting blog. We just want big bets, top-notch gambing advice and pure profit.

So, without further ado, here is my selection for this Sunday’s Super Bowl:

New England – 3

I know that the Giants have looked impressive the last few weeks, but let’s not fall into the trap of considering too small a sample size. They were ordinary during the regular season (check their points scored vs points against and tell me if this is a team that should be laying only 3 to a 13-3 team). And their supposed hot streak in the last few weeks included an absolute stinker against Washington, the memory of which I just can’t seem to shake.

The Pats are just better. If the Giants turn up, the CAN win. If they don’t turn up, they WON’T win. That’s enough for me. Final big bet of the season: lay the 3 points.
