Pay Up Pompey, Pompey Pay Up

I support Pompey, my mum supports Pompey and my granddad supported Pompey and he went to see them play every week back in the glory days.

Now I admit I’m an armchair fan and haven’t been to Fratton Park for years but the thought of never going again seems bleak. Now I don’t care whether they’re winning FA Cups and in the Premiership or down in Division 2, formerly known as Division 4, I just want them to keep on playing at Fratton.

The fallout of player power and megabucks deals seems to be an ever increasing number of clubs in financial ruin as Pompey are now. All this doubt has made me think I should go and watch them play again soon as I love going to watch the footy, however being old school sitting down on a cold day on a wet seat seems ridiculous.

I’ve savoured the atmosphere on the terraces on the Kop, The Shed, at Toon and right next to the noisy antiquarian book dealer aka Mr Portsmouth and his bell that don’t end at Fratton and it was great.

There must be a way of fans standing safely. Everyone stands when anything exciting happens anyway with the cries of “sit down” from the killjoys and shorta**ses. Well fingers crossed that someone opens their wallet and the Pompey Chimes continue to sound out across this beautiful football ground for decades, no centuries to come.
