Manchester Value

This has been one of my favourite football seasons ever to bet on. I really like going the opposite way to public opinion, and to do that profitably we need big swings of public opinion.

I can’t remember a season in recent years when there have been such dramatic swings of public opinion. Arsenal play the best football in Europe. No, Arsenal are rubbish – Wenger out. Spurs are now better than Arsenal. Actually, hold that thought, Spurs aren’t as good as Arsenal.

Chelsea in crisis. Sack the manager. They might not make the top four. Hang on! What’s that? Chelsea in the final of the FA Cup and the Champs League? Chelsea resurgent etc.

I think we can apply this to finding some value to the Manchester Derby on Monday night. Let’s just go with the team that no one is talking about. A few weeks ago, this would have been City. Now, and I can’t believe I’m saying this, I think Manchester United are the value!

Once they threw away a 4-2 lead against Everton the other day I circled this game as a possible “contrarian play”. Suddenly the focus, and the pressure, is on City.

So I’m going to have a big bet on United. I think the market has over-reacted and the betting public has forgotten who is actually at the top of the Premier League table! They are not my favourite team, and I don’t often make them a bet, but I think on this occasion I will be taking my five Euros to the betting window and investing in the Red Devils.

Good luck whatever you decide to bet on in this very exciting few days of sport.
