Skipper’s Super Sunday Preview Game 1

This Sunday sees Liverpool take on Arsenal, and Manchester United make the trip to play Southampton. Two great games that I will be watching in the pub in sunny Spain with my girlfriend nagging me to go back to the swimming pool! Nonetheless both games are live on Sky Sports so let’s have a look at them and see can we spot a little value to make this Sunday’s viewing that bit more pleasurable for all of you who will be stuck at home!

Liverpool v Arsenal

I am a massive fan of two so called ‘BIG’ teams playing each other in the Premier League. It seems to me that over the past three seasons or so the away team is overpriced. Sometimes only slightly, sometimes massively and sometime just enough to make them a bet like is the case here.

The Gunners are a juicy 3/1 to take the points in this one and I shall be having a nibble at that price. Both teams have had slow starts to this campaign and will be looking to get back to the winning ways of last season.

Liverpool put in a good show against the Champions last weekend and seem to be slowly finding their way under new manager Brendan Rogers. Liverpool are a good team this year (as I stated in my last Premiership Blog) and will only get better as the season heats up. In my opinion they are not quite there yet and don’t deserve to be 11/10 in this game.

Arsenal have looked the same way they always look, keeping lots of possession but not getting the ball in the back of the net. New strikers Podolski and Giroud have yet to start firing but I am not letting that put me off. They will start scoring sooner rather than later.

Arsenal create so many chances I think if I played up front for them I would eventually bang one in. When I look at this match up I make it a slight lean towards Arsenal if it was at a neutral venue. The game is at Anfield where home field advantage does play a part but I still feel the value here is in the 3/1 Arsenal rather than the short price of 11/10 Liverpool.

It’s time for the Skipper to step in, I’m going to have a speculative bet on Arsenal here at 3/1 to do the business and get win number 1 under their belt.
