Australia To Shine In 2nd Test

The 2nd Ashes Test has a lot to live up to when England and Australia go head-to-head at Lord’s on Thursday morning. England edged home by 14 runs in a cracker at Trent Bridge last week and the 2nd Test promises to deliver even more twists and turns.

I’m going to cut straight to the chase with regards to betting advice for the 2nd Test. How is a 14 run winning margin from the 1st Test enough to justify England being 10/11 and Australia being 3/1 or bigger for the 2nd Test? 3/1 for Australia is value, and I’d recommended following me in on this one. Sky Sports have been kissing the English cricketers arses since they clinched the 1st Test (which would not have happened if they got gubbed by the Australians) and I think people are buying too much into the hype. I’m inclined to think the market will correct itself in the next 48 hours and we’ll see Australia shorten up as the shrewdies come knocking for a price as big as 3/1.

The win in Nottingham masked some problems in this England side as several batsmen failed to click, and the over-reliance on James Anderson‘s bowling during this Ashes Series will be a major worry. Anderson took 10 wickets to pick up the man-of-the-match award at Trent Bridge and he was undoubtedly the difference between the two sides. England’s strike bowler could be in for a tiring summer if he is required to carry the attack single-handedly and he is 7/4 to be top England bowler again at Lord’s, where he has taken 58 wickets in 13 Test appearances.

Australia need their front line batsmen to come to the party sooner rather than later as they were reliant on last-wicket partnerships of 163 and 65 to keep them competitive in the first test match. Ashton Agar was the obvious talking point with a record score of 98 for a number 11 on Thursday and he is 33/1 to be his team’s top batsman again and I think he’s worth an each-way bet for an interest.

While Agar was batting like a top order batsman, Chris Rogers did look in decent nick too as he scored 52 in the second innings and the Middlesex batsman will be relishing the opportunity to play at his county’s home ground this week. Rogers is a best price 5/1 to be top Australian batsman and that looks good value as the opener has experience of the nuances of the famous Lord’s slope and he could provide his team with a platform for a series levelling victory at the ‘Home of Cricket‘.

Big Bets for the 2nd Test

Australia to win the Second Test @ 3/1

Chris Rogers to be top Australia batsman (1st inns) @ 5/1

Ashton Agar to be top Australia batsman (1st inns) @ 33/1 (E/W)
