A case of Goodnight Vienna
I managed a 7 point profit on the tennis last night with a successful sell on the Star Spreads total games market – which given it went to four sets I was more than happy with.
Nadal’s 6-2 3-6 6-4 6-1 victory in the early hours gave him his 13th career Grand Slam against a Djokovic who completely folded in the fourth set and could offer virtually no resistance.
Back to the football today and James has already previewed the Ukraine v England match in Group H and you can read his views on the match by clicking here.
It’s a big night for the Home Nations and I popped into my local bookies last night and they were offering 11/4 about England, Republic Of Ireland, Wales and Scotland ALL SCORING in their respective games. An offer I’m quite happy to pass over as I can’t imagine any of the matches being high scoring and wouldn’t be surprised to see a 0-0 in at least one of these games.
The Republic Of Ireland’s chances of qualification were dealt a massive blow at the Aviva Stadium last week when Sweden came from behind to win 2-1.
Manager Giovanni Trapattoni’s contract now has ‘borrowed time’ stamped across it. As if the result wasn’t bad enough for Trapattoni – Jon Walters, Simon Cox and Glenn Whelan all emerged from the defeat nursing knocks. Walters has shaken off his injury and is expected to start.
As for tonight a sell on total goals, on a spread at around 2.5-2.7, is my play, despite a history of plenty of goals between the two sides:
Mar 2013 World Cup Ireland 2-2 Austria
Sep 1995 Euro Championships Austria 3-1 Ireland
Jun 1995 Euro Championships Ireland 1-3 Austria
Oct 1971 Euro Championships Austria 6-0 Ireland
May 1971 Euro Championships Ireland 1-4 Austria
Nov 1968 International Ireland 2-2 Austria
May 1966 International Austria 1-0 Ireland
Oct 1963 Euro Championships Ireland 3-2 Austria
Sep 1963 Euro Championships Austria 0-0 Ireland
Apr 1962 International Ireland 2-3 Austria
Unfortunately for Ireland tonight it could be a case of goodbye World Cup and goodnight Vienna.
