Thing's We've Learned

Tony looks back at the weekend’s Premier League and La Liga action.

So what were the lessons we learned ?

1 – Liverpool have begun their inevitable implosion. Who had the first week of December in the pools? It was shocking performance from supposed title challengers, and a deserved win for Hull City. Brendan Rodgers must be waking up this morning in his Daniel Sturridge pyjamas this morning wondering what happened to them at the KC. I’ll tell you what is was, Mr. Rodgers, shall I? Having players like Flanagan and Henderson on the pitch. Your squad is far from capable of competing for a Premier League title. Time for the Scousers to get realistic. Enjoy Thursday night Europa League football next season.

2 – Man United are running out of instances where they can afford to drop points. The draw at White Hart Lane did neither team any favours. Robin van Persie’s superb debut season with Manchester United was vital in securing a farewell title for Alex Ferguson. RVP has been steady rather than spectacular this season and is currently out injured. United have looked to his strike partner, Wayne Rooney, to keep them treading water while Arsenal and Chelsea continue to accumulate points.

3 – After a couple of under-the-radar performances in recent weeks, Mesut Ozil is the man again. The German was immense at Cardiff City Stadium on Saturday as he dictated terms from midfield and set up two goals. His pass to tee up Mathieu Flamini’s second-half strike was good enough to unlock any top Champions League defence.

4 – Man City are primed and ready to turn their away form around and put the pressure on Arsenal. Their home form has been astounding, and they face a West Brom outfit on Wednesday that they should see off. A convincing win away for City will mean Arsenal have got to keep their impressive (and perhaps unsustainable) run going if they want to be top of the league come January 1st.

5 – Gareth Bale seems to be fitting in very nicely indeed at the Bernabeu. He bagged himself a hat-trick at the weekend, and with Barcelona losing to Bilbao, La Liga looks like it could be a very exciting season with three teams well in the running for the top spot at the end of the season.
