Liverpool v Man City (SKY 1.37pm)

Can’t wait for this afternoon’s LIVERPOOL v MAN CITY titanic clash (1.37pm SKY).

It promises to be a great game, quite likely the title decider, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it will deliver.

There are two forces at play. The fear of losing v the bravery of winning – and the former could well dictate.

Whilst Man City have games in hand – there’s nothing they can do if Liverpool win today and their remaining matches. Liverpool will be the winners. Surprise winners certainly, but their resurgence has been a breath of fresh air.

These two teams drew 2-2 THREE times in a row since their Carling Cup clash in January 2012 and Man City won the reverse fixture this season.

HEAD TO HEAD RECORD
(Max last 10 only)
Dec 2013 Premier Man City 2-1 Liverpool
Feb 2013 Premier Man City 2-2 Liverpool
Aug 2012 Premier Liverpool 2-2 Man City
Jan 2012 Carling Cup Liverpool 2-2 Man City
Jan 2012 Carling Cup Man City 0-1 Liverpool
Jan 2012 Premier Man City 3-0 Liverpool
Nov 2011 Premier Liverpool 1-1 Man City
Apr 2011 Premier Liverpool 3-0 Man City
Aug 2010 Premier Man City 3-0 Liverpool
Feb 2010 Premier Man City 0-0 Liverpool

Liverpool have now won 13 of their last 14 home games – dropping just four points in that sequence. But as strong as they have been at home that is countered by Man City’s away form. City have not lost in their last 10 away league matches.

Man City will be suited by the return of top scorer Sergio Aguero who is back after missing five games due to a hamstring injury.

Liverpool are likely to come out of the blocks quicker and Man City are likely to have to be strong in defence in the first 10 minutes.

Goals seem highly likely. Rodgers’ side have failed to score in just two of their 33 league matches, and it’s hard to see with so much at stake that the referee Mark Clattenburg won’t be kept busy too.
