Spurs v Sunderland (8pm SKY)
We got there in the end with a small profit of 30 points on the bookings spread in the West Ham v Liverpool game but it was mighty hard work.
Sunderland v Spurs tonight (8pm SKY). Two teams who have gone off the boil big time.
Sunderland played like they were already condemned at home to West Ham – losing 2-1. They have taken just one point from their last six games (scoring just three goals) and as a result are now propping up the table.
But the fat lady isn’t singing just yet for Gus Poyet’s men. A win tonight would lift them to third off the bottom, four points from safety AND with two games in hand over most of their relegation rivals. And that would be a much brighter picture, a glimmer of light, if you like, at the Stadium Of Light.
Whether they can do it of course against Spurs is an entirely different matter – and certainly Spurs have enjoyed a massive edge over the Mackems in recent seasons:
HEAD TO HEAD RECORD
(Max last 10 only)
Dec 2013 Premier Sunderland 1-2 Tottenham
May 2013 Premier Tottenham 1-0 Sunderland
Dec 2012 Premier Sunderland 1-2 Tottenham
Apr 2012 Premier Sunderland 0-0 Tottenham
Dec 2011 Premier Tottenham 1-0 Sunderland
Feb 2011 Premier Sunderland 1-2 Tottenham
Nov 2010 Premier Tottenham 1-1 Sunderland
Apr 2010 Premier Sunderland 3-1 Tottenham
Nov 2009 Premier Tottenham 2-0 Sunderland
Mar 2009 Premier Sunderland 1-1 Tottenham
A Champions League spot for Spurs remains mathematically possible but even a win tonight will leave them five points adrift. Their own form has really tailed off – losing three of their last four league games which included a particularly poor performance against Liverpool.
Could easily see 0-0 here but certainly few goals and I’m a seller of the total goals market tonight at around 2.75 with Star Spreads.
