S.P. Read Esq. Chepstow distances a buy
Our daily columnist and pundit S.P. Read Esq is relieved that Chepstow passed their inspection earlier today as he has an angle in to the Star Spreads distance market.
Testing ground, eight races and some small fields should surely conspire for wanting to go long on the distance market at Chepstow this afternoon.
The meeting only just got the go-ahead – it was waterlogged in places on Sunday !!
This morning the track tweeted: “Racing goes ahead following this morning’s inspection. Going is soft, heavy in places. First race 2pm.”
What appeals most about the make-up of the card is that the first five races are run over a mile or less.
One of the problems with the distance market in testing ground over longer races is that they can often crawl during the early stages and only quicken up closer to the line which lead to shorter winning margins.
However, we should see some races ridden at a fair pace here and horses will need riding out all the way to the line today.
Certainly the first race on the card could easily see a healthy winning distance, with a Richard Hannon long odds-on favourite in the field of six two-year-olds.
