S.P. Read Esq: Germany v Republic Of Ireland

Published On October 14, 2014 | By S.P.Read Esq. | Star Spreads

Our daily columnist and pundit S.P.Read Esq. looks ahead to the Euro 2016 Qualifier this evening between GERMANY v REPUBLIC OF IRELAND and finds the best opportunity available on Star Spreads, the home of sports spread betting.

SPreadThe money has arrived….. for Germany.

Despite a series of high profile odds-on defeats in this series of qualifiers, punters with Star Sports fixed odds have been more than tempted by the 1/4 that was available at lunchtime and the price has contracted to 2/9 for the Group D clash tonight at the Stadion Gelsenkirchen.

Germany themselves were surprisingly beaten 2-0 by Poland on Saturday and attempt to bounce back against a Republic Of Ireland side who had a morale boosting 7-0 win over Gibraltar.

It would be dangerous to over-rate that performance. As headline grabbing as it was, it was only Gibraltar and punters are clearly favouring the World champions for the clash at 7.45pm tonight. Worryingly for Ireland, Germany haven’t lost two competitive games in a row since 2000 and hold a 9-2 aggregate lead over in Ireland in all games since the Millennium.

Joachim Low’s Germany are very much a different outfit to what we saw triumph in Brazil in the summer. They are now a team in transitional mode with a number of high profile retirements and a significant injury list.

Midfielder Kramer has a stomach virus and winger Schuerrle is side-lined through flu.

Also out for Germany are Mesut Ozil, Marco Reus and Bastian Schweinsteiger.

Very uncharacteristically they are leaking goals in a very un-German like way and sit fourth in the group behind joint leaders Poland and Ireland.

For Ireland John O’Shea us expected to become the sixth Republic player to reach the 100-cap landmark as manager Martin O’Neill names an unchanged defence.

Germany should get back to business as normal on home soil but rather than the goals or supremacy markets I’m going to have a look at bookings.

They went bonkers in the Welsh game last night and generally there’s been more card action from the referees than expected so I’m happy to have an interest buying at 35 with Star Spreads.
