Christmas Memories.

  • Desert Orchid in the King George
  • Lights on the tree

  • Slade
  • Buffets
  • Boxing Day Sales
  • Snow (not often enough)
  • X Factor Number One (too often)

Oh, and the World Darts Championships from the Ally Pally.

Actually, also fling Phil Taylor into the above list because when it comes to Christmas he’s part of the fixtures and fittings.

In some ways it’s surprising to see him as favourite for this year’s renewal but in other ways you can argue he should be shorter !!

It’s just which way you view it. He’s bidding for a ridiculous 17th title and has a kind draw through to the quarter finals this year.

But if you take the negative side you would be arguing the 54-year-old is past his best and the power cut we saw last year when he was sent packing by Michael Smith will repeat itself this year.

However, there’s no real sign Taylor is on the decline. He took the Grand Slam title last month with an average of over 100 for goodness sake.

Defending champion Michael van Gerwen became the youngest winner of the event (24) when successful last year and will no doubt want to start with a big statement tonight as he faces Joe Cullen.

Cullen has beaten MVG this year but on the biggest stage of all it’s hard not to see that result reversed. I’m going with a high match checkout and am looking at north of 124 for a profit.
