S.P.Read Esq: Cardiff City v Bristol City

Our daily columnist and pundit S.P. Read Esq. looks ahead to the Championship 7.45pm kick off on Monday between CARDIFF CITY v BRISTOL CITY and finds the best opportunities available on Star Spreads, the home of sports spread betting.

SPreadThe three consecutive Premier League matches yesterday didn’t exactly do much for my calorie count and it’s a shame that one of the matches couldn’t have been played tonight. Less is sometimes more.

Southampton did score in the end yesterday but far too late to save me on the sell of their first goal time.

Championship action tonight with Cardiff City taking on Bristol City and if the head-to-head stats (below) are repeated we could be in for an interesting match.

Both teams need a win for very different reasons. A win for Cardiff would get them within a point of the play-off position line whereas Bristol City would jump from 21st to a possible 17th and put a little distance between themselves and the danger zone.

I expected Cardiff to be shorter than the 6/4 quoted at lunchtime by Star Sports fixed odds – they have a terrific record against Bristol City – you have to go back nine matches to 2002 since Bristol City last beat Cardiff at home (across all competitions) and the last time they met Cardiff were 2-0 up until conceding an own goal in the 90th minute which flattered Bristol City.

The Bluebirds are also in strong form at home this season – they’ve only lost once and are bidding for their third consecutive win after seeing off Charlton 2-1 and title contenders Middlesbrough 1-0.

Bristol City have won just twice this season and last time failed to hold onto their 1-0 half-time lead against Brighton who came back to win 2-1. Manager Steve Cotterill is expected to name an unchanged side for tonight’s trip to the Cardiff City Stadium.

The hosts should again have the services of midfielder Joe Ralls after his hamstring injury but Kenwyne Jones will miss the game due to a shin injury.
