S.P.Read Esq: Middlesbrough v Everton
Our daily columnist and pundit S.P. Read Esq. looks ahead to the Capital One Cup game on Tuesday between MIDDLESBROUGH v EVERTON and finds the best opportunities available on Star Spreads, the home of sports spread betting.
The Capital One Cup has reached the quarter final stage and the Sky cameras are at the Riverside tonight for Middlesbrough v Everton.
The hosts have a good cup record in recent years but don’t seem to relish Wembley finals. They certainly got stage-fright last season when beaten by Norwich in the Championship play off final.
Boro are playing well in the Championship again this season under the management of Aitor Karanka and are currently in second place having won four from their last five games. They have been particularly strong in defence and only conceded two goals in nine home games, of which they have won seven.
Karanka expects to have a full strength side to choose from.
Everton’s three defeats this season have all come against top flight sides: Man City, Man U and Everton and have easier looking tasks (on paper) for their next few fixtures which could see them climb higher than their current Premier League position of 9th.
Everton manager Roberto Martinez said: “In this competition I don’t think divisional status gives you a benefit. You need to be ready for the game with a clear understanding of how to perform. Clearly the mentality in our camp is to be ready – we can’t not be ready after the feeling at the weekend [drew 3-3 at Bournemouth].”
James McCarthy (groin) and Gareth Barry (shin) are both subject to late fitness checks for Everton.
