S.P.Read Esq: West Ham v Man U

Our daily columnist and pundit S.P. Read Esq. looks ahead to Tuesday’s Premier League game at 7.45pm between WEST HAM v MAN U and finds the best opportunities available on Star Spreads, the home of sports spread betting.

If this was Roy Of The Rovers, surely there would be no other outcome for West Ham tonight but a convincing win on their final ever game at Upton Park?

The Boleyn Ground will be swiftly converted to Boleyn Luxury Flats and the Hammers will commence their onward journey and new life at the 60,000 seater Olympic Stadium which they seem to have picked up for…. well let’s just say ‘good business’ on their part.

It’s sure to be an emotional night as 112 years of football comes to an end and Hammers boss Slaven Bilic has already stated that it will be ‘impossible’ to recreate the unique atmosphere of Upton Park at the shiny new venue – which, after all, was never built with football in mind.

He said: “The Upton Park stadium was a first home. No matter where you move after that – if you move to a fancy apartment, a big house or to a mansion – your favourite one is always the first. You are losing something because it is impossible to make the Olympic Stadium a fortress.”

West Ham’s problems on the pitch are two-fold. Firstly, they will need to play a damn sight better than they did against Swansea on Saturday – they surely owe that to their fans on this special night?

But their bigger problem is that they are up against a Man U side who are not only playing good football but have plenty still to play for at this final knockings stage of the season.

They are still chasing a crucially important top four finish for a Champions League spot.

Manager Louis van Gaal said: “We have to win our matches because otherwise we cannot be in the first four – that’s the pressure that we have. We have to fight until the end.”

There’s been precious little between these two sides in recent meetings – Man U edged a lucky victory in the FA Cup last month when West Ham had a goal disallowed.
