S.P. Read Esq: Huddersfield Town v Reading

Our daily columnist and pundit S.P. Read Esq. looks ahead to Monday’s Play-Off Final between HUDDERSFIELD TOWN v READING and finds the best opportunities available on Star Spreads, the home of sports spread betting.

SPreadWe might know by 5pm which of Huddersfield Town or Reading have they keys to the promised land. Or there again,we might not as 180 minutes of League football have only conjured two goals between this pair and that’s when there was considerably less at stake.

So the chances of extra time and penalties must be quite high.

“The richest game in UK football” is pretty much a coin flip in my book – though the odds are narrowly favouring Huddersfield who finished four points behind Reading in the season proper but beat them when they last met at the Kirklees Stadium in February.

Reading have the most recent top flight experience – having played in the Premier League four seasons ago but for Huddersfield it would more of a fairytale given it’s 45 years since they played at the top level. With no disrespect to either side, such is the competitiveness of the Championship that it might be some time before they get another crack at the lucrative Premier League if they don’t succeed today. Just look at last season: Reading finished 17th and Huddersfield 19th.

Both teams defied the odds to reach the final, a point highlighted by Huddersfield head coach David Wagner who told BBC Radio Leeds:

“I think everybody expected Fulham and Sheffield Wednesday in the final.

“There were a lot of statements before the semi-finals about momentum and about form. It is another example where we have proven that experience and what has happened in the past is irrelevant.

“After the 120 minutes against Sheffield Wednesday there were a lot of tired legs, but now after a training camp in Portugal and training on the grass here, everybody is ready to go.”

A nice return from the buy of bookings on the FA Cup Final and I’m tempted again in with a Star Spreads buy at 47.

With so much at stake, I can’t see that the bookings count is going to end low – although in yesterday’s play-off final between Blackpool and Exeter there were no cards at half time but a late flurry to take the make-up to 50.

Today’s ref Neil Swarbrick has averaged 39 this season and hopefully he will be kept busy – an early goal I think would help the cause in terms of tackles going flying in as desperation creeps in.
