S.P. Read Esq: Wimbledon Ladies’ Final
Our daily columnist and pundit S.P. Read Esq. looks ahead to Saturday’s WIMBLEDON LADIES’ FINAL and finds the best opportunities available on Star Spreads, the home of sports spread betting.
There’s a big chance that they will be partying like it’s 2007 at the Wimbledon Ball on Sunday.
10 years ago Roger Federer won the mens and Venus Williams won the third of her four SW19 singles titles.
Fast forward the clock 10 years and they have to get past Garbine Muguruza and Marin Čilić respectively for history to repeat itself.
I’m not a believer though, as I think Muguruza will prove too strong this afternoon for Venus Williams.
There’s little between them on official ratings with Muguruza rated 15 and Williams 11 but it’s the question of the 14 age gap that might prove telling.
Age catches up with the best of them and Venus Williams is bidding to become the oldest woman to win a Grand Slam singles title in the Open era.
Both players have lost only one set on their respective paths to this year’s final and whilst Williams looked good in ousting British hope Johanna Konta in the semi-finals I didn’t think that the hugely improved Konta played anything like the standard of tennis she had shown earlier in the tournament.
Spain’s only previous Wimbledon winner Conchita Martinez is mentoring Muguruza and might just help – at this stage it’s probably more of a mental battle than physical.
The pair have met four times previously with Williams 3-1 up, however the duo have never come face-to-face on a grass court and Muguruza won their most recent duel in Rome earlier this year. You can see why there is so little to choose between them in the market.
It’s vital for Muguruza to get off to a flyer and in the hope that she can and build on the momentum I am buying her 25 Index with Star Spreads at 14.
