Match of the weekend, on paper at least, as Man City bid to continue their monopolisation of the Premier League 2017/18. It’s Champions Elect v Champions De-Select.

City have only been held once at the Etihad this season in the League and with Chelsea seemingly faltering it looks destined to go to the paler shade of blue. Believers in stats from a bigger sample will point to City’s tally of 24 defeats by Chelsea being their worst record against any Premier League opponent.

City manager Pep Guardiola said: “Right now, as we sit here, they are the champions.

“We want to take this crown but, not too long ago, they made amazing things. They can do it again. They have the same manager, almost the same players.

“They work all week preparing for the game, so it is another challenge.”

His counterpart Antonio Conte is facing the possibly of a third straight league away loss for the first time as a manager, whilst Chelsea could also sustain a fourth straight away loss in all competitions for the first time in 14 years.

City could be without Kyle Walker with a calf problem and Fernandinho has been ruled out with a hamstring injury. Raheem Sterling is also a doubt, whilst Fabian Delph completes a three-match suspension.

Tiemoue Bakayoko, Ethan Ampadu and David Luiz all remain out for Chelsea.
