The two Premier League games between Liverpool and Man City this season have finished one a piece – despite the aggregate score of 8-4 in favour of City.

Whether that goal fest will continue at Anfield tonight in the first leg of a fascinating Champions League Quarter Final remains to be seen. In short, it’s a whole new ball game as it’s the first time the two sides have met on the European stage.

Quarter Final first legs are traditionally cagey affairs but that didn’t really hold out last night with the first two legs producing six goals including the out of this universe strike by Ronaldo.

You’d have to think Liverpool will need a DRAW, at worst, to continue their semi-final hopes and the fact they are the only side to have beaten the Premier League Champions elect must give them plenty of confidence on home soil.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said: ”It is a big game against one of the best teams in Europe, if not the best team in Europe at the moment. We are not in the quarter-finals by coincidence.

“Yes, we beat Manchester City a few months ago – we knew before the game it was possible. With our skills, we can cause them problems.

“It is a big job to do. Manchester City are a special team. They deserve to be the champions of the Premier League. In football it is not about being the best, it is about being perfectly prepared for the next game. It is not about yesterday, it is about tonight.

“It is clear City’s confidence is on an outstandingly high level, but we are in a good moment as well. They have a chance because they win wherever they go, but we can win football games as well.”

Man City will again be without Sergio Aguero with his knee injury whilst Liverpool are without Joe Gomez, Joel Matip and Ragnar Klavan in defence.
