Captain's Sporting Heroes Part 3
Captain’s Sporting Heroes Part 3 – Ruby Walsh
Another one of my sporting heroes has to be the master, the maestro, the living legend Ruby Walsh.
As well as his awesome horsemanship, I have a soft spot for Ruby as he lives not too far from The Captain in co. Kildare. I like to think of me and Ruby as kindred spirits, both Kildare boys at the very top of our game.
Now regular readers of this betting blog will know that I’m very much a National Hunt man and, when it comes to the jumps, you want to be with Ruby!
His achievements in the racing game put him furlongs ahead of the rest in my eyes. In particular, given that it’s this time of year, I have decided to crown him as the King of Cheltenham.
He is the undisputed king of Cheltenham with 30 wins in 13 meetings of the festival. In 2009 he had a staggering 7 wins at the festival which is something special.
Unlike some other high profile jockeys, you never see Ruby really flogging a horse; he can feel his way into a race and is one of the best, if not the best, judges of pace in a race.
I think it’s safe to say we can add a few to his 30 cheltenham wins in ten days time as Ruby hops on Big Buck’s, Hurricane Fly and the mighty Quevega. He’s a true gent and an upstanding guy and my god does he know hoew to ride a winner!
