The Chosen Gone?

It’s all going on in Manchester. And I’m not talking about the gossip in the Rovers Return.

Plenty of rumour today that Moyes has been/about to be/will be* sacked as boss of Man U.

The club ‘declined to comment’…… which usually means it’s true but it’s hardly the greatest of surprises. Their abject performance against Everton yesterday presumably proving the final nail in the coffin. Moyes, beaten by his former side who didn’t even need to play anywhere near their best.

Just wonder though how much dosh he will he walk away from Old Trafford with? The price of failure is handsomely rewarded in the world of football (and banking).

A nice pay off, a nice holiday, nice for pressure to be off, a nice supply of £££’s in the bank and he’ll undoubtedly pop up as a well paid manager of a club near you sometime soon. Nice work if you can get it.

On the other side of Manchester the headlines will be made on the pitch and it’s a must win for Man City if they are to keep alive their own title hopes – which look slim – but who knows in this crazy season ??

They face West Brom at the Etihad and with both teams having plenty to play for it should be lively.

West Brom are only three points off the drop zone and will need to do better than their last three visits to City when they have failed to score on each occasion.

HEAD TO HEAD RECORD
(Max last 10 only)
Dec 2013 Premier West Brom 2-3 Man City
May 2013 Premier Man City 1-0 West Brom
Oct 2012 Premier West Brom 1-2 Man City
Apr 2012 Premier Man City 4-0 West Brom
Dec 2011 Premier West Brom 0-0 Man City
Feb 2011 Premier Man City 3-0 West Brom
Nov 2010 Premier West Brom 0-2 Man City
Sep 2010 Carling Cup West Brom 2-1 Man City
Apr 2009 Premier Man City 4-2 West Brom
Dec 2008 Premier West Brom 2-1 Man City

Assuming Man City win, they will be six points behind Liverpool with one game in hand. They will then need to rely on Chelsea beating Liverpool on Sunday.

The one thing City do have up their sleeves though is a two goal better goal difference than Liverpool which could yet prove critical.

It’s obviously in the firm grip of Liverpool but City can put a little pressure on them and bounce back from their 2-2 draw with Sunderland last week which brought their title aspirations to a shuddering and unexpected halt. Sunderland’s subsequent defeat of Chelsea on Saturday should ensure they are on Liverpool’s Christmas card list for time and eternity.
