Benfica v Spurs (6pm, Europa League)

Published On March 20, 2014 | By David S | Star Spreads

Got it wrong yesterday. Man U survive and so does David Moyes. Their second goal was the pivotal moment for me coming seconds before the ref blew for half-time.

Spurs need to pull a similar rabbit out of the hat in Lisbon tonight (6pm KO, ITV4) if their Europa League progress is going to continue to the quarter finals but unlike Man U they can’t rely on home advantage to turn over the deficit.

Benfica are 3-1 after the first leg when they totally outclassed Spurs and it’s hard to see why they won’t be at least equally as dominant on home soil tonight.

HEAD TO HEAD RECORD
(Max last 10 only)
Mar 2014 Europa League Tottenham 1-3 Benfica
Apr 1962 Europa Cup Tottenham 2-1 Benfica
Mar 1962 Europa Cup Benfica 3-1 Tottenham

Spurs boss Tim Sherwood has a centre back crisis tonight. Younes Kaboul, Vlad Chiriches, Michael Dawson and Jan Vertonghen are all out.

It will be interesting to see how Sherwood gets on with Benfica boss Jorge Jesus tonight. The pair did not shake hands after the final whistle at White Hart Lane and Sherwood subsequently accused Jesus of “lacking class” after he raised three fingers to the Spurs bench when his side celebrated their third goal.

His excuse was pretty lame too. Jesus claimed that the three fingers was in reference to goalscorer Luisao, however the Brazilian wears the number four shirt !!!

Hopefully the referee will be busy as I am buying booking and also Benfica supremacy.
