S.P.Read Esq: Everton v WBA
Our daily columnist and pundit S.P. Read Esq. looks ahead to the Premier League game on Monday (8pm, SKY) between EVERTON v WBA and finds the best opportunities available on Star Spreads, the home of sports spread betting.
So, the marketeers have dubbed that today is ‘Blue Monday’.
This apex of gloominess is thought to be caused by multiple factors: miserable weather, broken resolutions, post-Christmas debt and weight anxieties.
Actually, there’s a simpler answer. It’s because we’ve got Everton v West Brom as the live TV game tonight. Even the Sky marketing department have taken the day off on this one.
West Brom are averaging 0.6 goals in their away games so far this season and Everton have won just one of their last 13 games – against QPR – how bad must QPR be ??
After Chelsea’s move at the top of the table over the weekend the relegation battle could be a lot more interesting. Everton are just three points off the drop zone and West Brom two points so there’s plenty at stake. It’s tough at the top but even tougher at the bottom.

Everton’s grueling and ultimately fruitless defeat at the hands of West Ham in the FA Cup may catch up with them tonight. It didn’t affect West Ham but then they won the penalty shoot out. It was a big effort from Everton, especially given the fact they played with 10 men for a sizeable chunk of the match but ultimately another defat.
A further defeat for Everton tonight would surely put Roberto Martinez under even more pressure?
I’m struggling to make a case for either team so am looking at the bookings market on Star Spreads.
A buy at 39 tempts me in. There’s plenty at stake for both teams so it could get tasty in terms of cards. Tonight’s ref Michael Oliver is averaging 42.5 points so far this season over 20 games so we already have something in the bag. There were five yellows (50 points) when these two sides last met at the Hawthorns so I’m hopeful of getting more than 39.
