It’s not a must win game for England by any means as they have already just about made certain of qualifying for Euro 2016 with four wins from four matches in Group E and gone a little way to repairing their abject display in last year’s World Cup.
Lithuania, who are currently ranked 94th in the world, won their first two qualifying games, against San Marino and Estonia, but have since lost 2-0 at home to Slovenia and 4-0 away to Switzerland.
The story of the match is likely to be the likely England debut for Spur’s man of the moment Harry Kane who could partner Wayne Rooney in attack.
Hodgson wasn’t willing to reveal whether Kane, who has scored 29 times from 43 games for Spurs would make the starting 11.
The England manager said: “We are very happy with Harry Kane. He has done well all week and has not in any way damaged his chances of playing in the full senior team. I’m pretty sure over the course of these two games he will make his full debut. He’s rightly getting lot of plaudits. But I’m not prepared to give my selection away – people will have to wait and see.”
I’ll take that as a ‘yes’.
