S.P. Read Esq: Ajax v Manchester United

It’s always more fun having a bet when you have a strong view – the only thing that’s better of course is seeing your opinion proved right and cashing in accordingly.
I have a fairly simplistic view on tonight’s Europa League Final in Stockholm and that’s I don’t think Dutch football is in good shape at present, either domestically or their national side which remains in disarray.
With this is mind, I fully expect Man U to get the job done with ease tonight and certainly be lifting the trophy after 90 minutes.
It’s 2-2 in the head to head record but with the last match played between them back in 2012 the historic form lines are only of passing interest.
Ajax finished second in the Eredivisie this season – just a point behind champions Feyenoord – and would have taken the title themselves but for a 1-0 defeat to PSV Eindhoven last month.
They can usually be relied on for goals, especially at home, but their young attacking side are lacking in experience and the neutral ground may well suit Man U better.
Ajax recently fielded the youngest side in Eredivisie history with an average age of just 20 years and 139 days in their final league game at Willem II.
Ajax coach Peter Bosz said: “We only have a chance of beating Manchester United if we play our own game, which we have developed this season and which I like to call the Ajax way of playing.”
This will be United’s 64th game of the season with so much at stake for Mourinho who has rotated his squad in sole preparation for this match which guarantees a pass into next season’s Champions League.
The match comes just two days after the dreadful events in Manchester that killed 22 people. United will wear black armbands and a minute’s silence will be observed before the match.
