S.P. Read Esq: Liverpool v Roma
Our daily columnist and pundit S.P. Read Esq. looks ahead to Tuesday’s Champions League game between LIVERPOOL v ROMA and finds the best opportunities available on Star Spreads, the home of sports spread betting.
Life has got very interesting for Liverpool. Just two wins away from a Champions League victory (and 9/4 to do just that with starsports.bet) and with due respect to Roma, Bayern and Real Madrid they have just as much chance of lifting the trophy in Ukraine.
They are odds-on to make the final but the job starts at Anfield tonight when they take on Roma in the first leg of their semi-final.
Roma haven’t exactly set the world alight in Serie A this season – they are fourth – a full 18 points behind leaders Juventus.
They are strong defensively, conceding just nine goals on the road this season in the league but have failed to score a goal in their two previous Champions League encounters with Liverpool (was back in 2001/2 admittedly).
Liverpool are third in the Premier League and Saturday’s 2-2 draw against WBA (when Roberto Firmino, Andrew Robertson, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Dejan Lovren and Alex Oxlade Chamberlain were all rested) should be swiftly forgotten in what is guaranteed to be a cauldron like atmosphere under the Anfield floodlights.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will be full of expectation that Mo Salah’s incredible run of form (41 goals from 46 appearances) will continue as he comes up against his former team-mates. Salah will equal Gerrard’s club record if he can score in a fifth consecutive Champions League game but Roma boss Eusebio di Francesco insists it’s not just about the Salah factor.
He said: “They have to do well to force us deep. The decisive thing will be for us to stay compact.
“Liverpool are not just Salah. The front three combine really well together and that’s not an insignificant factor.
“We haven’t prepared this game with one player in mind.”

As it’s the first leg, it becomes a game of four halves and whilst I expect Liverpool to win the war – the battle might take some time against Roma’s defence.
