5 Best Sporting Events

I thought in today’s betting blog I would go through my five favourite sporting events. Not necessarily those to bet on, just those I really look forward to each year.

I think there’s something very comforting about the rhythm of the sporting calendar. The winter has the darts, SPOTY and the Australian Open tennis. As the weather begins to turn, we have the Guineas and the Masters and the French Open.

As spring turns to summer we have the start of the cricket season, the baseball season and Wimbledon. And then the summer moves into autumn and the Prem returns and the US Open heralds the end of the heat.

So here are my 5 favourite sporting events to watch:

1. The Open (golf). Not the “British Open” for all our American readers.

2. Cheltenham Festival. You can keep your flat, your Derby and your Arc. This is racing.

3. The NFC and AFC Championship games (NFL). The Super Bowl is for people who don’t actually watch the game. This is the real quiz.

4. Monaco Grand Prix. Beautiful women, fast cars, gorgeous scenery…

5. The Ashes (cricket). The ultimate test, in every way. They shouldn’t devalue it by having the Australians over for meaningless ODIs.
