6 Best Sports Movie Characters 1/2
I thought for today’s betting blog I’d look at my favourite sports movie characters. I have been fairly liberal with my selection of sports movies. For example, some of you might not consider Rocky a sports movie. But it is, so there.
To be a great sports character, you’ve got to have some really quotable lines. You can be a “goodie” or a “baddie” but you’ve got to dominate the scenes you’re in.
So here’s part 1 of my top 6 sports movie characters of all time:
1. Clubber Lang. One of the greatest baddies on all movies (let alone sports movies), this guy menaced Rocky throughout Rocky III, ending the life of beloved Micky and harassing Adrian. Best line: “No, I don’t hate Balboa. I pity the fool, and I will destroy any man who tries to take what I got!”
2. Johnny Utah. Now I can hear you readers already saying, “What! Point Break’s not a sports movie!”. But it is isn’t it? It’s a surfing movie and surfing is a sport. Utah is a brilliant character, despite the best efforts of worst-actor-in-Hollywood Keanu. Best line: Wars of religion always make me laugh, because basically, you’re fighting over who has the best imaginary friend.
3. Johnny Lawrence. This guy is the baddie in the Karate Kid movie. He’s a bit of an idiot, but he has some of the best lines in all films, including “get him a body bag” and: “Here. You’ll need to fill this out and send it in, okay? Just so they’ll know where to claim the body”.
