United Can Prevail In Titanic Tussle
There was arguably a greater match-up in the studio than out on the Eastlands pitch for last week’s opening ‘Monday Night Football’ programme, writes Graham R.
Messrs Neville and Carragher exchanged some quality banter throughout the programme which was a far more even contest than the match itself as Man City predictably pulverised a poor Newcastle outfit in a lop-sided contest.
This week’s ‘MNF’ promises to be an entirely different story with Man Utd and Chelsea facing off in the first real heavyweight clash of the new season. Both teams got off to winning starts on the opening weekend and Chelsea subsequently made it 2 wins from 2 with a somewhat fortuitous victory over a rejuvenated Aston Villa in midweek.
United were at their clinical best to eventually despatch Swansea 4-1 on the opening day with the imperious Van Persie showing his incredible finishing ability yet again to set them on their way in what otherwise could have been a much closer game. I believe it is United’s incredible aptitude to take their chances that will see them beat Chelsea.
To my mind they are fairly evenly matched teams overall but undoubtedly United have superior players in the forward areas which I believe will make the difference. Whilst RVP and Welbeck have hit the ground running, Mourinho is searching for that top-class striker to lead the Chelsea charge. Torres started the opener against Hull but was then dropped in place of Demba Ba for the Villa match with neither doing their long term prospects any good with un-inspiring displays. Lukaku has been used as a substitute in both games and is obviously still viewed as potential rather than the finished article by Mourinho who has been open in his desire to sign a certain Wayne Rooney from United.
So settle down with Gary, Jamie and co. on Monday night for this mouth-watering clash and why not make it even more interesting by placing a few bets too. My advice is to get stuck into United on the Supremacy Market and back the main man RVP to do the damage.
